OUR NEIGHBORHOOD GARDEN

The Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library in Summerdale recently received a grant from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation for the "Our Neighborhood Garden" project.  The EJK Foundation gives grants to libraries that come up with a creative project that can be enacted by the children with their librarians. The library gardeners are Kaley Powell, Peyton Tolbert, Aleia Chunn, Tyler Reichstetter, Bailey Reichstetter, Tyshanna Williams and Tyrone Williams. The library purchased plants of red lettuce, bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, basil, thyme and watermelon along with pots and potting soil with the grant. The gardeners planted and tended to the plants throughout May, June and July and are now harvesting the fruit and vegetables. They are also learning to dry and store herbs.
